Statement from the STOP Obesity Alliance and the Redstone Global Center

Racism, oppression and white supremacy have no place in our vision for the future of our country and we stand with those fighting against it. State-sanctioned violence against black and brown people has been a fact in this country since its founding. It must end now and those who perpetuate it must be held to account.

Racism is a public health issue. Trauma is a public health issue. We cannot ensure the health and wellbeing of all until equity – across all sectors, including health, criminal justice, law enforcement, education – is achieved.

We are honored each and every day to work with and support our colleagues in their work of the Center for Community Resilience. CCR and their network partners continue to create more equitable communities by addressing the Pair of ACEs through systemic and policy change.

We know there is work to do and we stand committed to this essential effort – within our own organization, at The George Washington University, in the District of Columbia and in the United States. Please join us in condemning the police brutality that led to the death of George Floyd and others, and caring for our colleagues of color.
